Frequent traveller Program?

A few things to start off with.

I have been seriously delinquent in posting regularly. I'm very very sorry about that. there are a few reasons. 1) I work all the time. and i dont really want to get on the computer after hours. 2) i dont know what to write about. if you have any suggestions to get me over hump #2 (bc hump #1 involves quitting) then let me know!

Another funny thing: one of my best readers (and most frequent commenters) always addresses me as 'Endless', which makes me laugh. i know it's the title. but it's obviously not my real name. i guess i asked for it when i opted to keep this impersonal and quasi-anonymous. not becuase i dont love you all....but becuase i'd rather not get fired. anyway...

So Benet (the frequent traveler guru) asked about those 'registered traveler' programs, which i've heard a lot about, but honestly dont know all that much about them. from what i understand, you pay a fee (well, hopefully your company pays it) then you go through some kind of initial screening process (to make sure you're not a crazy terrorist) then you can zip through security every time you fly (only from the airports that support this....correct?). i dont know how into that i would be. i mean...i typically fly only United...so i can always take the 'short lines' both for check in and for security. So while i know i bitch and moan about the lines, they're usually actually not that bad. and they're only really annoying in cities that dont have 'status' lines (ie - certain terminals which shall remain unnamed at PHL). not to mention that i haven't yet had the opportunity to fly out of DEN on a frequent basis (i moved last weekend and worked from home this week), so i'm not sure how much of a horrible pain in the ass it is. i'll tell you sunday, when i fly to philly. so in summary - i dont know if i would be willing to do the program....i would need to hear a bit more about it. now if they had a program where they would deliver your luggage to you the second you exit the plane....then i would do that. no doubt.

what else. very exciting that Vandy kicked GW ass in the 1st round of the tournament...i have to say that while i always root for them....they typically end up dissapointing me. (see Loren's blog for more ranting about how frustrating vandy athletics are) so they play again tomorrow and i'm not going to say anything for fear of jinxing us. zip!

what else...if anyone is going to be in denver next weekend....let me know. it's both melissa's birthday and my birthday. and we usually celebrate in vegas (for the past 3 or 4 years) but this year decided not to do the whole vegas/ncaa/birthday combo weekend not only bc it's ttoally exhausting but its a bit expensive. :) anyway - we're having a party here if anyone wants to attend. also cara and i are having a housewarming party at our new pad on 4/14 if anyone wants to attend.

also if anyone has any wonderful dining/attraction suggestions for denver, let me know. i got some great ones from Aaron (thanks!!! - i'm going to that sushi place tonight!) and am always looking for more!!

I know you carry quite a bit of weight with United. However, there have to be those days when they just won't give you what you want. Here's an option i found. The guy even got a free voucher for his inconveniences.

SALT LAKE CITY — SkyWest Airlines apologized to a passenger who said he wasn't allowed to use the restroom during a one-hour flight and ended up urinating in an air-sickness bag after two "really big beers."

James Whipple was on a flight to Salt Lake City from Boise, Idaho, on March 7 and wanted to use the cabin restroom. The captain, however, had declared it off-limits during the short flight because a light wasn't working.

Whipple said he had two "really big beers" in the Boise airport. He used the cabin restroom before the plane departed but had to go again and finally reached for the air-sickness bag.

"It was like I had no choice," Whipple told The Salt Lake Tribune, which posted the story on its Web site Friday.

No other passengers noticed Whipple using the bag, but a flight attendant asked him about it and told the captain, who called airport police. Whipple was questioned and took a taxi home to Sandy, a Salt Lake City suburb.

The airline sent him a letter of apology and a flight voucher, SkyWest spokeswoman Sabrena Suite-Mangum said Friday.

She said SkyWest decided to go ahead with the flight and get the light fixed in Salt Lake City, rather than delaying it or canceling it for repairs.

"For such a short flight, we really felt we were trying to inconvenience the least number of passengers possible by operating that flight," Suite-Mangum said.

That story was so funny. I'm using it in the Friday edition of my blog this week -- Strange But True Airport News.

Thanks for answering my question about registered traveler. I wanted to get the perspective of a frequent traveler, which I never do, since I write a trade publication.

You nailed it on how the program works. Right now, it's at Orlando, San Jose, Cincinnati, Indianapolis and 2 terminals at JFK. Denver, Reno, DC and Atlanta have said they will do programs and it may eventually go up to 22 airports under the current pilot program.

The question in the industry is whether the $100 yearly fee worth it if you can just use an airline's first-class line. Now if the technology allows you to keep your shoes and jacket on, and not have to drag out the laptop, I'm all for that. But if not, I'll just continue to use the elite line, thank you.

And happy birthday, "Endless!"

Endless, I also need to use this nickname for you, because that is fantastic. I have been seriously lacking on my blog too. It is embarassing. I mean, how exciting is it really that I drink every day and go snowboarding in different countries on the weekends? I have the same issues you do though - when I come home I am tired and don't feel like blogging, I feel like sleeping! We should make a pact to update each of ours once a week, the person who fails to do this 3 times pays the other person 50 bucks (or 60 francs). What do you think? - Love Swissie xxx
